internship and externship opportunities
Sports Medicine Internship
Grand Prix Equine is committed to the training and success of future equine veterinarians. Our hands-on sports medicine internship program is strictly ambulatory, and interns are equipped with their own practice vehicle from day one.
They will become proficient at lameness diagnosis, use of inertial sensors (the Equinosis Q), intra-articular therapies, digital radiography, ultrasonography, gastroscopy and upper airway endoscopy, as well as a wide breadth of emergency medicine cases.
Interns are provided housing in Connecticut. There are also opportunities to spend time in Wellington in the winter. Intern applicants are required to visit the practice for consideration.
Veterinary Student Externships
Veterinary students accepted to our externship program will garner professional experience in an ambulatory-only practice and learn more about our internship program. Externships are typically scheduled for one to three weeks, with preference given to third and fourth year veterinary students. Housing can be provided, depending on availability. Prerequisites for being accepted to the externship program with Grand Prix Equine include:
· Minimum 1 year of horse experience
· A primary career interest in equine veterinary medicine
· Proof of PLIT insurance
· Due to our ambulatory nature and various satellite locations, your own transportation is required
Please provide your resume and a cover letter stating your experience and professional interests including two options for dates that you are available. If available, we highly recommend sending a professional recent photograph of yourself and letter(s) of recommendation. All externship requests should be sent to Tori at the email below:
Undergrad Students & Shadowing Opportunities
Undergraduate students and others interested in pursuing a career in equine medicine are welcome to volunteer to shadow our veterinarians for a day. Volunteers must be able to commit an entire day to spend with one of our veterinarians and must provide their own transportation to and from our office. Some experience handling horses is highly recommended. All volunteers are required to complete a liability waiver.
For more information about volunteer opportunities, please send a resume and cover letter stating your experience and professional interests as well as a few dates that you are available to Tori at the email below:
